Background / General description

The Information Solutions Group (ISG) is the World Bank’s central function for the provision of information and technology services to the Bank’s business units. Bank IT strategy is designed to align IT initiatives with the Bank’s business strategy. The overarching objective is to ensure that end-users have the information and systems to do their job at HQ and in the Country Offices. The management of most of the end-user IT services, business solutions and the underlying technology infrastructure is centralized with ISG.

Within ISG, the ISGEB division develops and supports several core business applications for the Bank Group using SAP, Peoplesoft, Remedy etc.. The team works closely with business offices, other WBG IT teams and with contractual services partners globally to deliver these services.

Business Processes supported in SAP by the Bank:
We support a number of key business processes, including Loan and Trust fund Administration, financials, procurement, budgeting and costing, and travel management. We use out-of-the-box solution from SAP’s FI, MM, CO, FM, IM modules as well as a large complement of custom applications to support these processes.

SAP was implemented in the Bank back in 1999, and over time, a number of applications have been added to the system. Current SAP ERP version in use is 4.7.

Chennai ISGEB Team

Setting up an ISGEB team at the World Bank’s Chennai office. This team will support SAP ERP applications, and other business applications. We expect the scope of application systems supported in Chennai to grow over a period of time.

These two positions are for the team that will support SAP ERP applications

Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year renewable term appointment.

Duties and Accountabilities

• Support application systems in the procurement (MM) and Loan Systems (FI, major custom development) areas. This support includes design, development, and deployment of enhancements and bug fixes to both simple and complex custom applications that use ABAP dialog programming and J2EE webdynpro. This work needs to be carried out in a fully compliant Software Development Lifecycle Methodology set out by ISG. To provide effective support, the team members need to fully understand the complexities of the supported business processes.

• Provide leadership to the team of staff and contractors in design, development and application maintenance activities.

• Provide production support in the above mentioned application areas. This support includes troubleshooting of reported issues, batch job monitoring etc.

• Lead projects, and perform project tasks (enhancements or new application development) as part of the ISGEB workprogram.

• Effectively interact with other technical teams in the Bank as well as clients in Bank offices around the globe. Promote and facilitate cooperation within the organization and with clients.

• Coach, guide and train team members in software design and development practices; provide inputs on staff performances to supervisors.

• Develop weekly reports on team performance and achievements.

• Provide input for development of standards, policies, procedures, data/information quality metrics.

• Participate in internal and external audits and compliance attestations and assessments.
Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree in software or systems engineering, computer science, information systems management or equivalent.

• Minimum of five years of relevant experience in a similar SAP specific role.

• Proven experience in SAP application solution analysis, design, integration and implementation skills.

• Strong ABAP skills with experience in dialog programming. Experience in ABAP objects, J2EE webdynpro environment, SAP report painter is a strong plus.

• Solid troubleshooting, analytical, and problem solving skills in an SAP environment.

• Functional Expertise in one or more of the following SAP FI (GL, SL), MM, CO/FM is preferred.

• Design and documentation skills for implementation of business solutions. e.g. solution approach, impact analysis, functional specifications, unit and integration test plans

• Experience with interfaces between SAP and non SAP systems

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to express technical and business concepts well.

• Demonstrated team player with a results oriented track record, with the maturity to escalate issues as needed.

• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a matrix management environment, both as a team leader/supervisor and team member.

• Demonstrated openness to change and ability to manage complexities, with proven ability to learn new functionality and technologies quickly.

• Experience in delivering quality-centric support and solutions

• Knowledge of compliance requirements with financial system controls and audits

• Proven experience in software development/maintenance work with teams distributed across geographical locations.

• Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude

• One or more years of experience in guiding team members in software design and development will be a plus.
